The Chinese community in London celebrates the Chinese New Year in Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square and in Chinatown. This year the Chinese new year is on the 23rd Jan and the main celebrations are on January 29th. However events will be held from 23rd January to 29th January.

The celebrations will begin at 10 in the morning with a parade around the West-end which will pass through Chinatown, Shaftsbury Avenue, Charing Cross Road, Rupert Street and end at Trafalgar Square at 12pm. Here the official opening ceremony will take place from mid noon. Special guests include the Mayor of London. There will be Dragon dancing, music and other performances on the Trafalgar Square stage from 12pm-6pm.

At the same time Shaftesbury Avenue will also host a lot of performances.
While in Chinatown there will be a parade by Lion dancers as well as a range of stalls selling traditional Chinese cuisine. So come over and enjoy the celebrations.
